Founder - Dennis Mabrey

Dennis has had over ten years of system and application level software engineering experience in the highly competitive software development industry.  He has great passion in just about anything challenging in computer industry.  Throughout his years as senior software consultant, he has made significant contribution and taken leading roles in some very high profile companies' both software and hardware infrastructure.  Dennis received B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Delaware.   
 
Founder - Elizabeth Mabrey
Elizabeth is the founder of the unique “Storming Robots” Robotics Technology Learning Center, which is the only Authorized LEGO Mindstorms Center in NJ. She has over fourteen years of system level software engineering experience in the highly competitive software development industry. She received her M.S. in Computer Science from Drexel U.

With her technical experiences and being a parent of 3 self-motivated academic achievers, she strongly believe in the importance of nurturing children's creativity, enforcing academic and personal disciplines, and strengthening their critical thinking skills, teamwork, communication and leadership skills. 

She believes in using robotics curriculum as a great tool to help our children to meet the unpredictable challenges in the future global market by focusing on the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as the core foundation for our children academic and intellectual development.

Netzin Gerald Steklis

Netzin received a Masters from Princeton University in 1995, and has been a researcher in multiple scientific disciplines for over 15 years. She is particularly interested in GIS aware robotic systems.   Aligning with the director’s dream, she aims to establish a science-centric institute for children, with an emphasis on critical thinking/logic and a problem-based approach to learning.
 

Workshops part-time instructors

Jeffrey Goett:

He currently is a high school physics teacher at Franklin Township High School. He has great passion in science education.  He volunteered to teach computer applications and accounting classes to underserved high school students through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.  He obtained M.S. in Physics at the Rutgers University.  

He is currently responsible for our 4th to 12th grader workshops.


Dharati Patel:

Ms. Patel is a graduate from the Kean University with BS in Education, specializing in Elementary education.  She is responsible for our MicroBotics, and all 2nd-3rd grades workshops.  Being a certified Elementary School Teacher, Dharati strives to motivate children to have fun while learning. She stresses the importance of having children think critically and wants them to have a meaningful experience using a hands-on method of learning.

Traits that are common in all of our workshops assistants:
  • meeting academic excellence is simply one of the many other goals.
  • possessing great passion in computer technology and robotics;
  • working as our assistant even during the school year as well, not just the summer;
  • ability to exert the energy of trying your best attitude;
  • fully appreciative of challenging fun from robotics. No surprise there because they themselves once were  Storming Robots students.
Kevin Fritz - Kevin, 2009 NJ Governor School scholar, is currently a homeschooling high school Senior. He also has superb stellar academic record.  He possesses great passion in computer technology and loves programming.  He has also participated in the high school level robotics national level championship and earned the first place three years in a row at the state competition. Even at his young age, he has received a programming & statistic internship opportunity with a NJIT computer science professor.  His programming skill was once praised by the professor as superior to his internship peers, who were  undergraduate college comp. sci. students.   

Matthew Goldman  - Matt, a self-professed "computer geek", is a high school Honor Freshman. He is passionate with computers especially Apple Mac. He consistently earned the highest academic honors at school, and was the head of the School's Technical Crew. He was named to Who's Who among Middle School Students for all three of his middle school years.  Achieving over 2000/2400 SAT at his 8th grade year. Being an accomplished musician, Matt has won several Outstanding Achievement Awards from Calderone School of Music for his guitar playing. Matt has been involved with Storming Robots since 2005, serving as the captain of the numerous robotic competitions since 2005. He also coached a winning team in 2007 FLL.

Garrick Lau - Garrick is currently a high school senior.   His scholastic background is also nothing less than impressive.  Some include earning over 1200/1600 SAT at his 8th grade year, being in top 1% in his high school, has been the Chief Editor of the award winning school newspaper "The Lamb" since his junior year, a member of the National Honor Society, a National Merit Scholar.   Consistently challenging himself and putting in 110% effort is simply his way of life. 

James Wittel - James is currently a Homeschooled high school senior. He has played the major development role in the superb Robot Competitive Team named Team Overdrive for the last four years, and has continuously won the FIRST NJ State Championship in the past 3 years. His many robotics competition achievements have earned him scholarship to study at NJIT Summer Engineering program in the past two summers. He is also an entrepreneur. He owns and runs his own company called JPEX Production (a photography/videoing firm), as well as create a small web farm for his friends at his basement.




Our past assistants (as well as our past roboclub members):

Gawain Lau - Gawain,  2008 NJ Governor School scholar, is currently attending University of Pennsylvania majoring in Chemical Engineering.   His academic path has been filled with nothing less than impressive.

Johnny Wang - Johnny is currently studying at the Lehigh University majoring in Computer Engineering. He is currently the webmaster for Lehigh University Chapter of Engineers Without Borders.

General Qualification of Instructors
There have been a few other temporary part-time instructors who worked for Storming Robots.  All instructors and counselors must meet the following criteria:
  • Pass the criminal background check
  • Already have had or currently pursue Bachelor Degree in science or education.
  • Have outstanding academic records.
  • Have credential in their experience working with children, such as past camp counselors, teachers, etc..
Qualification of Camp/Class Assistants
All camp assistants are required to:
  • pass the criminal background check.
  • have outstanding academic background.
  • have experience in robotics, either robotics club or competition.
  • have experience working with younger children.
